It may still only be July, but summer will be over before you know it, and the new school year will begin very soon… many area schools, including Lewisville ISD, are set to start on August 13!
If you’re currently in the market for a new home and finding the best school district for your child is high on your priority list of “must haves,” here are a few good tips to know and to ask your REALTOR® about.Please keep in mind however, that Fair Housing laws prohibit real estate agents from steering clients towards a particular area, or away from another area, but they can certainly help you in your research so you can decide on your own where you would like to live.
What does GOOD mean to you?Are AP courses important for your child?What about Special Education classes & transportation?Or does a good sports program or a variety of social or academic clubs rate high?Hone in on what each District as well as individual school offers by researching their websites, making calls, and even talking with folks in the neighborhoods that you are considering.You can also contact the Texas Education Agency or browse their website to see district test scores if that is important to you.
Visit a variety of school campuses.There is always going to be feedback; good and bad for every school or district.But keep an open mind, as what may be important to one person, may not be important to you!It’s a good idea to talk to the actual staff members to help you get a better understanding of how things are done within that particular school.
Once you’ve decided on a school, make sure that the home is actually within the boundaries of that particular district!These boundary maps are located on every district’s main website; and they are broken down by grade level as well.Another thing to consider is transportation.If you want your child to ride the bus to school, you need to make sure it’s offered where you live!For instance, children of Elementary or Middle school age may have a bus available to them, but an older sibling in High school may not in that same district!
