At the start of a new year, I realize that everyone seems to write about goals, weight loss, healthy eating and how to get organized... BUT many times this advice is hard to achieve, therefore most people “give up” in just a matter of weeks. So, I thought, why not just put THREE very attainable things out there to try and help make YOUR life a little bit better in 2017.
Finances: Whether you are trying to save for a new home, pay down existing debt, or increase your retirement savings, the easiest thing to do to help with this is to invest in a software program (i.e. Quicken) to help you keep track of your money, and how you spend it! Knowing where you spend your money is half the battle in getting started on a realistic budget. You probably didn’t realize that you spend $35 bucks a week on fancy coffee until you see it documented in a report! Or that you go out to eat 3-4 times a week at $50 a pop. These are areas that are super simple to cut back on without feeling too deprived. You just simply need to be aware… There are also free apps that you can get right on your phone; Mint is one… it is a highly rated, easy to use app that helps you manage your money in one place! Check it out!
Household Organization: Instead of tackling every room in your house, why don’t you start with just ONE area of organization: your holiday wrapping supplies! Now that the holidays are over, you probably have a mishmash of wrapping paper tubes, tags and ribbons… more than likely shoved under a bed or thrown in a box. To make it easier for next holiday season, take an inventory of everything and separate into bins or storage containers. Take it a bit further, and dedicate a space just for your supplies; like a spare bedroom closest! Make a list of everything that you are low on, whether it’s tissue paper, tape, tags, cards or whatever; then go hit the after-Christmas sales at your local Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Walmart or Target stores! They are practically giving this stuff away in January so they can make room for Spring merchandise! I can’t remember the last time I paid full price for any of my wrapping supplies… typically I can get everything for 70% off or MORE… you’re crazy not to think ahead and take advantage of these sales. Oh, and keeping your wrapping supplies organized will also help you throughout the year when you need to wrap gifts for other occasions such as birthdays, weddings, baby showers, etc.
Life Balance: I’m sure you are inundated with magazine articles, TV ads, talk show segments and online posts all telling you how to live a better lifestyle in the new year. Trouble is, people often make the mistake of committing to too much, too soon, therefore they get overwhelmed, and don’t do ANYTHING! So instead of saying, “I’m going to work out every day and lose 20 lbs. by Spring!” Try starting out small, and commit to walking 3 days a week, cutting out sodas, or spending at least 15 minutes a day in some sort of reflection or meditation to organize your mind each morning. These may seem insignificant, but you can build on them; and you’ll really see results over time… not failure!
So, that’s it. My humble words of wisdom to (hopefully) help you get organized this year and enjoy your life… Good luck! 2017 is going to be the best year yet!!
Submitting an offer on a home without ever setting foot inside is not new… and now with the COVID-19 Pandemic, it has become more common place for buyers who simply don't want to take any risks. But is this a smart thing to do?
