For some reason people have this notion that December is not an ideal time to buy or sell a house. I disagree! I, personally have SOLD three of my previous homes, and purchased one in the month of December! (Not to mention the numerous homes that I have leased in December as well!) For many buyers, it is a time to start NEW, as they are wanting to be in their new home before the New Year… and if kids are involved, they want to get them enrolled in their new schools at the start of a new semester. (I’ve personally experienced this with my kids as well, and changing schools after a Holiday Break was a great transition period.)
Then there is the holiday decoration dilemma; should you or shouldn’t you put up a tree, lights, and other trimmings when you’re trying to sell your home? I say YES! Just limit the amount that you put up. A Christmas tree can add that “extra touch” that makes a house feel like a family home in the minds of potential buyers! And outdoor lights can really look good in listing photos! It’s also a great time to go through your attic and closets as you bring out your decorations… pitch, donate or condense and pack up anything you won’t be using while your house is on the market.
Lastly, because we live in Texas, the burden of moving in 100 degree temperatures is non-existent during the month of December! This fact alone should sway you…
Please call me if I can help YOU buy, list or lease a house during this time! In the meantime, I hope you will all enjoy this entire Holiday Season!
Submitting an offer on a home without ever setting foot inside is not new… and now with the COVID-19 Pandemic, it has become more common place for buyers who simply don't want to take any risks. But is this a smart thing to do?
